I love the idea of using old sweaters to make something new. After staring at some sweaters I had purchased at the local thrift store, I came up with the idea to make legwarmers from the sleeves. This does require a serger sewing machine to finish off the raw edge of the sleeves after cutting them from the sweater. Here are the simple steps to making legwarmers from an old sweater:
- lay sweater out on cutting table and cut each sleeve off with a cut that is parallel to the sleeve bottom edge (and as close as possible to the top of the sleeve).
- Using a serger, sew the raw edge of each sleeve.
- Finish off the raw edge by folding it in and hand-sewing it or zig-zag stitching it (to allow stretch).
